Each day of the Cheltenham Festival sees a key race run as the third of the day. These prestigious races are the most fiercely contested and offer the biggest prize funds and Cheltenham Festival betting markets.

Cheltenham Festival Records – The Cheltenham Gold Cup

  • Most successful racehorse: Golden Miller with five wins between 1932 and 1936.
  • Most successful jockey: Pat Taaffe – rider of the legendary Arkle during his three-race winning streak.
  • Most successful trainer: Tom Dreaper, the trainer of Arkle who provided him with three of his five Cheltenham Gold Cups.
  • Most successful owner: Dorothy Paget, eccentric owner of all time great Golden Miller who provided Paget with five of her seven Cheltenham Gold Cup wins.

Cheltenham Festival Records – The Champion Hurdle

  • Most successful racehorses: Istabraq, Sir Ken, Persian War, See You Then and Hatton’s Grace all achieved three consecutive wins in the Champion Hurdle.
  • Most successful jockey: Tim Molony, rider of Sir Ken with four Champion Hurdle wins.
  • Most successful trainer: Peter Easterby with five wins between 1967 and 1981.
  • Most successful owner: Dorothy Paget with four wins, two of which involved Insurance, Golden Miller’s stable-mate.

Cheltenham Festival Records – The Queen Mother Champion Chase

  • Most successful racehorse: Badsworth boy took three consecutive wins between 1983 and 1985.
  • Most successful jockey: Pat Taaffe, star of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, also heads the win list in the Queen Mother Champion Chase with five wins from 1960 to 1970.
  • Most successful trainer: Tom Dreaper with an impressive six wins to add to his five Cheltenham Gold Cup titles.
  • Most successful owners: George Ansley and Doug Armitage with three wins apiece.

Cheltenham Festival Records – The World Hurdle

  • Most successful racehorses: Inglis Drever, Baracouda, Galmoy and Crimson Embers all achieved two wins in the World Hurdle.
  • Most successful jockeys: Tommy Carmody, Tommy Carberry, Richard Swan and Thierry Doumen all won two World Hurdle titles.
  • Most successful trainer: Crimson Embers’ trainer Fulke Walwyn with three World Hurdle titles.
  • Most successful owners: Sally and Pam Smart with three World Hurdle titles, two with Crimson Embers and one with Rose Ravine.
